Short description:

A really rich, earthy and punchy coffee roasted medium-dark to give a real Italian flavour. Full-bodied with big hearty mouthfeel and full flavoured with minimal acidity and sweetness.

Description:

Espresso Grin is our take on a classic Italian espresso. It's rich, earthy and punchy, with a big, hearty body, low acidity and a deep sweetness underneath. It cuts straight through milk, which makes it a natural match for cappuccinos and lattes, and it's bold enough to drink as a short black on its own.

We roast it medium-dark to build that weight and depth. It's the one to reach for if you find most speciality coffee a bit too bright.

What's in the blend

Grin is 100% Arabica from four origins:

  • Brazil, Daterra estate (20%), Rainforest Alliance certified, for sweetness and body
  • Colombia (30%) for balance and a caramel backbone
  • Guatemala (30%) for cocoa richness
  • Sumatra (20%) for the earthy, heavy character that gives Grin its punch

At a glance

  • Roast: medium-dark
  • Tasting notes: rich, earthy, hearty, sweet
  • Body: full
  • Acidity: low
  • Best for: espresso, cappuccino and latte, moka pot

How to brew it

  • Espresso: 18g in, about 36g out in 25 to 30 seconds. Grin is forgiving, but if it turns bitter, try a slightly coarser grind or a shorter shot.
  • Moka pot: fill the basket level without tamping, add hot water to just below the valve and brew on a low heat. Pull it off the heat as soon as it gurgles.
  • Cafetière: 16g of coffee to 250ml of water just off the boil, four minutes. A touch stronger than usual suits it.

Our ground option is ground for cafetière. For espresso machines and moka pots, buy whole beans and grind them just before brewing.

Grin or Smile?

Grin is the heavier, earthier of our two espresso blends. If you want something sweeter and a little brighter, with toasted almond and milk chocolate, try Espresso Smile. Or get both in the Espresso Explorer Starter Kit and decide for yourself.

How does shipping and delivery work?
Because we're a marketplace with many different vendors, the items in your basket may come from multiple warehouse locations, in more than one shipment.

We attempt to make this clear to you throughout the process via the following:

* On each product page we show the vendor details, the estimated shipping and delivery dates and the shipping cost for a given product.
* We display estimated delivery times in basket, checkout and confirmation email.
* At checkout we display the number of deliveries and associated costs (if any) with each shipment.

Individual vendors may offer free delivery when a minimum threshold or amount is reached. If so, this is messaged in the lime green shipping and delivery information just below the buy buttons on a product page. We offer a Delivery Pass subscription that offers subsidised and free delivery as well.
How do subscriptions work?
We offer Subscribe & Save subscriptions on many products to make it easy for you to repurchase your favourites. There are no minimum order requirements and subscriptions are fully manageable through the subscriptions tab in your account. Subscriptions can be cancelled or paused at any time.
